IBADAN TODAY: 10 shocking facts you didn't know about Ibadan

I wrote this piece some months ago on a casual visit to Ibadan, I guess NYSC saw it and decided to post me here for my youth service, thus I would starting a write up series ..Ibadan today.

Watch this space for a new series coming from my NYSC experience here in Ibadan. "IBADAN TODAY". you can send your Ibadan stories to me let's share.

I want to use his opportunity to thank social media for giving me different view of what Ibadan looked like, I was expecting to see a *modernized village* Buh I was disappointed and came up with this shocking facts

1. There are more goats in Ibadan than any other state in Nigeria: I saw more goats today in less than 2hours in Ibadan today than I have seen since the 2001 when I left Ilorin. There were goats everywhere, seem they kept goats as pets instead of dogs...cause I didn't even see a single dog.

2. They use red oil to fry akara: this is scary, akara is reddish already, you now worsen it by frying it with red oil. Omg!!!

3. There are more bikes than there are roads in Ibadan: f**k school when I can just become an okay a rider, I guess that's the motto in Ibadan as almost everywhere I went there are okadaS *emphasis on the capital letter S* they were so many you could find yourself in one sef unknowingly.

4. The names of places in Ibadan sound like****** : I thought Lagos had the worst names Buh take a chill pill and hear this I.e berefoko, dugbe, onireke, bashorun, molete, and the world renowned tourist center Challenge, etc don't bite ur tongue o, trying to pronounce it.

5. There are good roads in Ibadan: the good part is that there are good roads in Ibadan, yes! Tarred road!! Don't be surprised it's true.

6. Not everybody is a beggar in Ibadan: although there are beggars lying on the road!! Yes o road begging for money( if car jam them now, *God forbid) also there are beggars at every traffic light stop, also in dugbe shoprite there are beggars IN shoprite. There are also tush people here too sha, not everyone is a beggar.

7. Everybody understands Yoruba in Ibadan: you literally don't need to ask if you understand Yoruba here just speak it....they other person understands, you will need to ask if they understand English tho...

8. There are tall buildings in Ibadan: not sky scrapers Buh they sha tall, I never hexpereedit.

9. There are fine houses in Ibadan: not all the houses here are mud houses, some of them are fine too, tho almost all the government offices looked like they need help.

10. I should have shown you pictures but I didn't  go out with my iPad cause I was scared ....thus leading to the last point.....There are nice people in Ibadan: not everybody is a warrior or decendant of sango here there are nice people here.

Don't take this too personal o, it's just for joke. They may be true o Buh they are exaggerated.

Convocation picture

Have you ever met a celebrity or someone in power, the first instinct is lets take a picture, why? Because you want to  remember that moment.

It has been largely agreed to that a picture speaks more than a thousand words.
How many of us has ever looked at pictures and wished we could go back to that event. Personally I like to keep pictures because it reminds me of memorable moments.

Another memorable thing is about to happen, convocation, and it is advised you keep a quality picture of it thus I introduce to you GMK MEDIA a reliable media house to take your convocation pictures.

There are different packages which you can choose from.

Don't be that guy/girl that dulled that year.

Don't listen to the crowd

We have all heard quotes like "stand out","be different","don't follow the crowd" and so many others but I guess this should be different "don't listen to the crowd" they say a lot of jargons.
I will use my experience at the filling station to illustrate my point, I was on a quest to get fuel (yes oh Na quest), I woke up early, enough, Wednesday morning 6am did my daily things, pray, eat, exercise, dropped my sister off at work not knowing I would spend the next 10 hours of my life queuing.
"This queue doesn't seem to be too long, let me join" (note the time is 8:30am) seems like I will leave this place in like 30 minutes, the line seems to be moving.

4 hours later (12:30pm)
This line is really moving "are they selling fuel"?? "Yes, but no go fit get" this guys are jokers, so many people were coming back(those that packed their cars, tracked to see the current phenomenon) "excuse ,e are they selling furl"?? "Yes but you won't get"

7 hours later (3:30pm
It is now I realize that the line that was moving was because of people who were frustrated and left the line, everybody shouting you can't get fuel here. Believe me, at this point I had heard a lot of jargons about different complains from people and a summary of what was mostly said = jargons. Different talks about Nigerias history, government and most of what were said, were said out of ignorance and frustration any attempt to draw a conclusion from those conversations will result in absolute failure.

10 hours later (6:30pm
I think they are right, you can't get fuel here and off I zoom to my house, hope the little fuel in this car won't finish before I get home.

Goodnews
In less than an hour the next day I got fuel, don't ask me how, and yeah at the normal price #87.

DON'T BE THAT GUY/GIRL IN RHE CROWD, BE DIFFERENT

Fuel higihaga 😁😁😁

Innocent me just getting back from school not knowing the higihaga that has been going on with the fuel scarcity situation in Nigeria. I was even dropped at home so everything still seemed fine till yesterday when I was about leaving home did I realize that, oh!!.....there is fuel scarcity.

Fuel scarcity joke has become very interesting all of a sudden, except that the prices of foodstuff and every other thing relating to fuel is not joking nooo not at all, it's straight face is like that of terminator I guess it didn't get the joke.

Buh honestly everything still seem like a joke a liter of fuel for #400 this must be a joke, someone please tap me and say April fool, or something like it's just a joke. Where is/are the government this is ridiculous, embarrassing to an oil producing nation and especially the government in power and all its official.

Fuel scarcity I know usually last maximum a week and it's resolved Buh this is unbelievable. My experience yesterday was not funny at all, getting to my bus stop going to iyana ipaja T.fare of #70 became #200 all of a sudden I was still forming James Bond till I saw the crowd waiting to enter the bus with me at that price shouting "it's even cheap" without a second thought on hearing that I jumped in the bus with them, going to ikeja I paid x4 of what I would pay on a normal day.

The transportation is so bad you don't even care how much it would cost, you just want to get home.
Something have to been done we can't continue like this, and sad enough the them them in power are still moving round town like nothing is happening. Last last Na we they suffer am.
There is God o.

WHO ARE THE RICH AND POOR IN NIGERIA? Social class better explained

Got this from my friends blog iweanya Victor @ www.iweanyawrites.com and enjoyed it, thus decided to share it, I hope you will enjoy it too.

The past few weeks has seen me cross the Third Mainland bridge severally and I have come to the grand conclusion that two very different worlds exist at the opposite ends of Third Mainland bridge.
From the supercharged angry atmosphere soaked with sweat and impatience characteristic of the mainland to the tranquility and oyinboishness experienced at the Island, one can only be baffled at the disparity that exists.

After salivating at the structures and automobiles I have seen, I think it would be a great disservice if I don't properly classify our social class and enable people find out where they belong.

1. The Rich
     Examples: Dangote, Otedola, Oniru, Elegushi
This are the class of people allowed to call a Private Jet, a Toy. They are permitted to have hectares of land at Banana island and Eko Atlantic city. They have breakfast at Oriental Hotel, Lunch at Federal Palace Hotel and dinner at Eko Hotel. They are the worthy mentors of the youths. God specifically told me that this is where i'd be.

2. The Rich Middle Class
     Example: Oil Workers
This type of people are my best kind of people. They think they are Dangote. You see them with nice cars, starched white shirts and an air of importance. One good thing though is, when they are sacked or retired they have just enough to setup a business to rescue them from disaster.  (Continue Reading)

3. The Poor Middle Class
    Example: Bankers, Doctors
Bankers and the rest of the people in this class are quite unique. They really think they are rich. They earn just enough to survive. If you take their job, you've taken their life. They are the kind of people you wouldn't want to have as an uncle cos it pains them to see money leave their pockets.

4. The Rich Poor
Example: Teachers, Jeans sellers, shawarma sellers
Teachers have their reward on Earth. There's a probability their children can become Rich, if that doesn't occur, their reward is properly stored in Heaven. Interestingly, teachers are comforted by the fact that they look good, probably drive a clean car, have a pretty decent office and perhaps sound smart. If only they knew that they earn almost the same salary as the man grilling shawarma on your street.

5. The Poor Poor
    Examples: Corpers, Biscuit sellers
    What can NGN 19,800 do??

6.They need help
    Examples: Windshield wiper hawkers
I really really do not understand this business. Like how much do you expect to realise in a day?? How many people destroy their wipers? well this is apart from NURTW touts workers who demand kindly ask for some proceeds of your day's hardwork.

This is a proper classification of our Social class in Nigeria. I did enough research and I highly recommend that our Social Studies teachers in Secondary Schools update their curriculum.

I can't lift 80KG what happened to me??

I can't lift 80kg anymore what have happened to me

For someone that is an addict gymer if there is a word like that, lifting 80kg will be  child's play to him yes what happened to me, two years ago when I was active in the gym lifting 80kg would be child's play to me.

After two year of retirement from the gym I decided to try lifting 80kg again and you can guess what happened I failed I couldn't. I tried again Buh to no avail and immediately the Holy Spirit ministered to me.

So also it is in the kingdom, "I was a prayer warrior two years ago" is not enough to chase the devil away today like my father will say for every new level there is a new devil.
Your knowledge of yesterday situation is not sufficient for today's challenges, you need to constantly keep building up yourself;

spiritually- to be able to solve current spiritual challenges and be fit the current spiritual opportunities
Physically- maybe like me to be able to lift 80kg (oh not that) to be able to meet the challenges of today and fit for the opportunities of today.

OFILI DOESN'T SPEAK

Ofili doesn't speak !!!

Compared to the conventional motivational and controversial books of our contemporary time which avoids the real issues like a plague but rather concentrate on what society is itching to hear so as to ensure they become "best sellers" also like their counterparts. It has become a rat race of jungle crap rather than an enlightening experience in the quest for knowledge. Only until recently that I stumbled on some of Ofili's works, I was yet to see an author or at least a writer that would confidently call a cotton wool white irrespective of the repercussions and not translucent, so as to appeal to all different clans of the community interpreting things as it best suits their selfish needs.

Books have seized to speak the truth, if we don't fight for ourselves then who will, actions might speak 'louder' than words, still our words and voices are our most powerful and 'influential' tool yet. Our voices are capable of change as we can never imagine it. The greatest revolutions the world has ever known from the likes of Martin Luther King Jnr and a host of others all started with voicing out words of heart aching pain. We lose this war the moment we stop talking about the things that matter.

We live in a world filled with excruciatingly loud sounds and noises, in our homes, offices and streets, yet, the silence (concerning the things that matter) is thunderous. We need to recruit persons in the likes of Ofili to fight for and with us, side by side until this war is over. The war against immorality, war against tribalism, war against child abuse, war agains depression and a chunk of others. This war would never be over ironically, but we can manage it, curb it till the barest minimum but only if we come together and join our voices in unity for the world to hear. United against this odds that threaten to rip our community from within.

Ofili doesn't speak, he communicates, and ignites a radical change from within everyone he comes across via his books and articles. Ofili has a powerful way around words and people, that these skill sets work harmoniously, getting the attention and touching the silent heart cry of the everyday Nigerian. Today we fight, not for anyone ambitious goals but for ourselves. Talking about "ourselves", when was the last time you did something for yourself, really ??? In recent times we are so busy doing nothing, pursing things that don't matter and funny as it it, these things are never for ourselves, is it working for your salary ? (Actually its for your boss, to build his own pocket at our expense) or trading so hard just to spend the little income on rent (for your landlord), hospital bills (for the doctors that would never tell you that your are completely fine, there always a test to do or drugs to be bought). Even when we think it's for our children, an investment into our own blood to make them better than we are, it's no news that the education system is degrading while the fees are on an exponential race to the top and our children still can't solve basic real life challenges, so what can we say we are preparing them for ? Most times we don't even know how they are fairing in school because we don't have time. We leave our own blood and sweat in the care of strangers while gradually enriching the pocket of these strangers even more and not having time for them.

Soon they end up on the morning news or as the talk of the town as robbers, drug barons or a teenage pregnancy case and we wonder; how, why, when and where did we get it wrong ? How did this one change overnight !!! He never changed OVERNIGHT, it was right under your nose but you couldn't see it, too busy trying to out wealth your peer claiming it's for your children, same children you lost to the vices of the world you detest.
So then, what are we chasing and why ? Would it be worth it in the end ? Why not do something that counts, something that matters for you, for me, for us, for our children we so love dearly and fight. Fight this fight like a man with nothing to lose, then and only then would we have chased something that's worth fighting for... Let's come out openly and join Ofili in this war and win together knowing we gave it our best and not drowning in silence because I will.

I AM NIGERIAN

If you have been on Twitter of late you should have seen a picture like the header above with the Nigerian itsh in front of it, thanks to Gabriel Esu a student of covenant university.

I am Nigerian first, my tribe comes second. Let's join hands to combat tribalism, if we all the youths can join hands together on this and fight tribalism in the next 10 to 20 years tribalism wouldn't be a challenge.

Let's Jon this campaign to fight tribalism. You can get your pictures edited on this link like the ones above http://goo.gl/GfD2Nf

I love Nigeria, God bless Nigeria.

WHY DO COMPANIES HIRE SMART PEOPLE AND STILL TELL THEM WHAT TO DO?????

Why do companies hire smart people and still tell them what to do

That's quite long for a topic.......Buh at least it buttresses the point
If you have an answer maybe you can tell me later  you know
Because it amazes me how companies scrutinize people for employment just to tell them exactly what to do

1st class graduate from Harvard b.sc, m.sc several other awards and recognition
Several certificates exams, tops in attitude test, IQ test and every other test (not HIV test o)

And all you do is keep telling him what to do, organizations should let their highly decorated employees take  charge of responsibilities in their own creative way, or why do you need smart people when all you do is tell them what to do. Instead let them become intrapreneurs in your organization.

"Type the letter and get all resources ready for our organization meeting with so so organization" and many others anyone can do that why employ someone with the highest degrees to do just that.
This I see is what causes under utilization of employee, some don't even know what's going on in the company save that which they are told to do.

Why do managers get mad when their instructions are not followed strictly? what if the employee had added some creativity to that.
Not that it concerns me o am just a careful observer.......ok bye.

HAVE YOU EVER SLEPT IN CHURCH???

Any service o, no excuses, all night? First service? Even 4th service? Morning mass? Easter youth alive? Midweek service?
I doubt if anyone can completely answer no to that,  if your answer is No please make yourself known by putting a comment in the box, we will like to celebrate you with e brethren.

Here I am in church....1st service!! the man of God is preaching a powerful message "encounter with POWER through vision" and I look to my right the nigga is sleeping, ok even the next guy... wait lemme check behind me omg they are also sleeping ok this are guys lemme take a look at the girls side sigh!!  they didn't disappoint me they are also sleeping.

Am not writing this because I have never slept o...emphasis on never (before they start keeping a watch on me) Buh this message is too impactful for someone to be sleeping now.

This arouses the question why do people sleep in church?
Could it be that the message is boring ?
They didn't sleep overnight ?
Or is it the devil ?
The chairs are too comfortable?
They don't like God ?
They are tired?

If you also have reasons why people sleep maybe to justify yourself  you can let it known in the comment box as well. At least we can all know why people sleep and maybe we may consider sleeping too if it is productive.

AWESOME DEFENSE!!!

Omg..... How could u not write about defense
Ok that's quite broad I mean the word "defense"
Let me break it down, final- year- project-defense
That explains it better now, my defense was awesome
...have used that word 'awesome'  over a hundred times this week because it was actually awesome and people definitely keep asking how the defense was and I simply tell them it was awesome

Amidst the everybody wearing suit and looking all office ready, especially the girls and some boys that have never worn it before it was a wonderful experience.

Gist coming from my colleagues says that it was also awesome, nice, interesting, but really no one came out and said my defense was bad .....but the question is who are those that now score D and C in project.

Wish we had the opportunity to watch people's defense like my engineering colleagues at least we wouldn't need to ask how was your defense we just be like "sorry ehn" or "congrats". That's by the way.

77 days to go, have not lost count keep calm, and soon I will be out of covenant university as a graduate with my B.sc accounting. But before then let's deal with this exam.
 June 26 is a reality.

Money has value

Been a while I wrote, and I feel empty already does this mean writing is really my thing.
Why haven't I written for a while, common there are lots of things to write about my birthday was about a month ago, the presidential election amidst many other situations around.

Like I told a friend that I haven't written because I was going through some emotionally krinkumkrakum (that does not mean anything don't worry ......at least I guess it explains what I mean) yes! Not that I lost someone neither did anyone break my heart.

My Atm was missing and I was in a financial dilemma, it was catastrophic, it was fun the first week as it seemed I was saving my money Buh Ogbeni been without money is not fun, I once wrote about a call for help Nna I needed help.

Ant till yesterday when I got my ATM back ate good food of my choice did I appreciate the value of money.

"Up Nepa" oh sorry....... Money is important.. sigh.... They have taken the light again.

I feel alive again Walahi and I don't wish anyone that, as for the elections and other matters like my boring birthday God dey, thank God for the new president elect and other governors elect I hope they work o. But it's sad none of them even promised free wifi at least many people can get to visit my blog more often.......ok bye!

A CALL FOR HELP!!!!

It was a cool Saturday morning and believe me I didn't want to leave my bed, not for anything Saturday is generally as long sleep day as it is the only day of the week where I get to sleep for longer hours than normal.

But I had to get up from my bed, it was for project 1million souls outreach and I wasn't going to miss it also for anything. Where are we going ? Bergers colony in Ebute meta Lagos, yes! There is a colony for Bergers sad but true and they have accepted the name Bergers wao this calls for alarm, am not going to bore you with the whole journey experience as it was a hell of a ride.

There is a place called Bergers colony, could it be a single story I will see for myself. Getting there I wasn't disappointed as the images I had in my head of the place was correct, and only one thing came to my mind they need help!.

The children were excited as they know not what the other side of the world looks like and can't even dream of a brighter way to live life buh this is a call for help. Not just those at the Bergers colony buh also those in your neighborhood, in your street, I once saw a quote somewhere that says if we all wait till when everybody can do everything for everybody we will wait forever buh what we need is somebody to do something for somebody.
Nothing you have is too small, if you are privileged to be reading this it only interprets to me that you have enough to help somebody, don't wait to help everybody cause you may wait forever. Save a soul, nothing Is too small.

WHO CAN STOP THE LORD?

Through wind and rain
Through fire and lava
The Lord will never leave you.
Through earthquakes and floods
Through changing sea levels and burning ash
The Lord will never leave you.
If you love Him, He will bless you
and He will give you many things.
..........................................................
Who can stop the Lord?<!--more-->

Who can chase the cheetah across the plains of Africa?
The Lord, He can.
Who can stand on Mount Everest?
Who can face a rhinoceros?
The Lord.
The Lord can give you sheets and Goats and cows and ducks and chickens and dogs and cats.
The Lord can give you anything He wants to.
........................................................
Who can stop the Lord?
Who can face an elephant?
Who is brave enough to face a lion?
The Lord.
Who's as fast as a horse?
Who can catch a blue whale?
Who is brave to face a giant squid?
The Lord.
Just as Jesus as died on the cross,
So the Lord has done so.
The Lord will never leave His people,
The Bible is His word.
The Lord is a good Leader.
................................................
The Lord loves you.
And he will not forsake His people.
The end.

This is the poem of a seven Years old boy William Fariss, he is the son of pioneer Bible translators in west Africa, He has interest in dinosaurs and animals. He wrote the poem as he watched their house go up in flames.

3 plus

Yup, another Wednesday has come and gone and guess what Christmas came early this year. We all expected to be taught well in 5 plus Buh we were amazed at what we got in the normal
3 pm class.

We had an external speaker today, Mr Boye Abe

Topic: Achieving your Goals by building multiple source of income.

What is the next phase of your life after school?
"Good degrees don't guarantee for success in life"

Employ yourself now or you will join the race of unemployed people

What do you want? The challenge is that most people think they know what want but they actually don't. #thinkaboutthis

Why multiple sources of income
1⃣It creates more money, and more time
2⃣It reduces the risk of being left without income "depending on a job to meet all your financial needs can destroy you in one day"
3⃣It help to save for the rainy days (negative things in the country) "do t eat with your ten fingers"
4⃣It creates and promote entrepreneurial development and business skills.

To to create multiple streams of income
1⃣A career ( with or without an academic qualifications)
2⃣Your Hobby ( what do you love doing that you can turn to money?)
3⃣An acquired skill (consider area of interest)
4⃣Start a trade (trade an idea, product, service) "there is no stupid idea"

Ideal entrepreneurial stream for students
NETWORK MARKETING
Why network marketing ?
An extremely rapid yet ethical financial empowerment
You don't money to make money

" the rich builds networks others look for a job"

Other convertible currencies
➡️Talent and skill
➡️Time
➡️Influence
➡️Space
➡️Goodwill
➡️Effort

"All you need is people"

HAPPY BIRTHDAY NONSO

Let me take some minutes out to appreciate this icon, this wonderful personality, die hard Chelsea fan, a friend, a source of motivation, crazy guy, idea bank, poet, his choice of words still amaze me.

As much as I would have wanted him on my team I know He is making waves in his works and I am proud to have him as friend. As you clock a year older today what more can I wish for you but good, enjoy your day my yoruba Igbo brother Abejegah Chinonso Femi.

Let me just drop one of his poems here, this is on leadership

Made to master

Moses stammered ; but had a rod
His peregrinations gave us the Decalogue
EMPATHY, indescribable in our eye sockets
Made Mother Theresa resolve to pull the plug

I would sit on the fence if it's strong enough
But Mandela found unflinching faith in profound fear
Mahatma relished his tears as rain for the crops
Warring not because he wanted his corn-science clear

Martin Jnr saw the promised land in his dream,
Slam-brake the sheer bias of the spangled banner.
And Malcolm x decided to be part of the movement,
Albeit scarred by his father's  gruesome murder.

With flaws dispelled, faults eased and fears allayed.
While all else LOOKED, these ones could SEE.
Buoying me to make the future words read,
"THE SEVENTH LEADER WAS ME"
