And that's not our discussion for today's 

How do you feel after shaving the shii off 

Fresh air can now circulate within your body

At least that's how I feel

Lesser space for germs to hide and all 

Personally it raises your self esteem 

You know what I'm taking about.

Lt. Col. Muhammad Abu Ali was killed in an ambush attack by Boko Haram members at Mallam Fatori, Borno State last Friday. 

This man was serving His country.

I've realized that we pay little or No respect to uniformed men

Except the soldiers of course (when it's not that life af tire you) 

But we need to start showing a little more respect ✊🏽 

Common this men  have a lot to sacrifice while doing their jobs 

They also like to chill and do so many things like normal people but the nature of their jobs won't allow 

Sad enough they have to wear one design of cloth almost everyday, you've killed their fashion senses na 

That's not the focus, 

They've sacrificed a lot, 

You may have your specs about how they do their jobs 

But a little respect won't hurt you know

Just greeting them and saying you are doing a nice job is also part of it 

So today we are challenging ourselves to show respect to them

I don't know if I still have the rights to preach this 

After my friend was the one that told me to go shave 

After seeing my armpit at the pool 🏊 

She was like ...."man .....shave that shii" 

So today I'm taking a step further to also my my nails 

Before someone else will make me do it

After I was also forced to cut my hair.

Fine boy outside....but inside "oh my god"

Personal hygiene is good Biko 

I not start casting some of my friends as to how hard they scratch 

Because they don't wanna shave

We were meant to call a friend and appreciate him or her 

Yeah....that shii can be funny, this is Nigeria. 

I'm sure you friend would be like "hey..what do you want" 

But deep down, he is happy.

I don't even get why we enjoy hiding our emotions. 

I didn't call but I had a chat with my friend and appreciated him 

And you guessed right, he was very happy. 

He feels like he has someone that has his back always 

Today is awesomer, if there is a word like that 

What we are doing today can be embarrassing 

But none the less,  it can also be beautiful 

Cause you never know what someone is thinking of 

Everybody wants to be loved, cared for or just even be recognized that they exist 

You never know how people hurt inside 

"Everyone loves to be around happy people, be one" 

So today we would spark a conversation with a total stranger 

There are people that are pro at this, and in my experiences it's always nice 

Especially when you start on a positive note like a compliment or a small gift like sweet 

Or even just stating the obvious.... 

 I think I do this often and I've enjoyed every bit of it.

At least try and get the persons name, and if they are of the opposite sex you can take a step of faith and get their number, tell them something nice about themselves 

That should be easy now, after doing that for 5 people earlier

My father works in mysterious ways,
Yesterday's challenge was to buy food for someone
Because we all love free food
You needed to have seen my schedule
Tight, very tight schedule.
A agreed to meet with a friend and I couldn't and sure he would be wondering why I didn't even call.

 Coza called for the supply of 3000 chairs because of their program that they invited Benny Hinn. I was here and there to see to the success.

Oh ..about the free food. I got free food at the point I never expected, a cocktail 🍹 dinner that I wasn't invited for. It was awesome....good food at that.

We are challenging ourselves to something else today, don't worry this one won't cost you money, you are not buying anything for anybody.
You just have to call a friend and tell him or her how much you appreciate them
Make that friend feel important in your life.
It will revive your relationship
Distance is not what causes break ups
Silence is what causes break

My challenges: free food 😁

Awesome day it was yesterday, complimenting people
I know I've sown seeds in their lives
The artiste girl, I'm sure she would be more confident doing her paintings
And the security man would feel appreciated for his efforts
One of those I complimented that got my attention was
Mr Jonah( not the one that swallowed the big fish)

I noticed how excited he is as a person and complimented Him for it
He told me a lot about the importance of smiling
And how it makes you look good even at an old age
And guess what...it cost nothing to smile

Today's challenge is going to be simple and interesting also
There is nothing as awesome as eating good food
Especially when you didn't buy with your money
Thus you see how people struggle at parties to get food
I'm certain you have an experience
Those women........we are not discussing about them today



It's when you offer to buy food for people (by people I mean especially girls)
That they begin to order things they haven't eaten before
The one they would never consume or buy with their money
I'm a victim too
I'm not telling you the story 😬
Just know I'm a victim too, I over ordered

But the point here is there is joy in getting food, especially free food

My challenges : the importance of compliments

It was on a hot afternoon when I left my room for rushing for a class hike in school,

The date I can't remember, time I can't remember, but 1 thing I also can't remember is the year exactly 

It's that bad, but I remember the compliment that was given to me by an older friend, someone I respeck

And she said it like.......

"Nice shirt, it really looks nice on you.....why don't you wear it more often"my father, my father!! 

 

I place a bet she has forgotten she said she said those words, but I haven't. FYI I still have the shirt, you needed to see my confidence level that day 0- 100 real quick 

Compliments are good.....especially when you are the one receiving them, it can really cheer up a weak soul

It can be inconvenient to give them, as people differ some in character, but just imagine how you could easily lighten up a persons mood by just a simple and sincere compliments. 

What if they snob me? What if they ignore me? Or abuse me? What if they don't? 

Giving compliments is not about you! It's about the person you are giving.

Even when you have forgotten you gave them, I'm certain the person you complimented hasn't forgotten.

While to some its natural like my friend Onyka Ogwu, to some it's unnatural like hfhrkshi ushdhdn (that's his name what were you expecting )

My confession

 

Hey guys, 

I really have to confess, I haven't been the best I can be 

I haven't done the things I intend to do 

I'm challenging my consistency.

The specs of being a Corper: my story pt 4

6. HOPE: I know I’m not following the order in happening, but I just have to write about my experience at HOPE real quick, (helping other people excel), im not beginning to explain what HOPE is about here biko. 

Just know that plenty awesome people gathered together as volunteers to help train young and wonderful minds to become betters minds, leaders, world changers even superman, we were that good. 

I will put a lot of pictures since they say a picture speaks a thousand words. So if I put a couple of pictures I guess that covers for thousands of words.

I met awesome people, talented people, skilled people, trained people, learned people, gifted people, business men, smart people, I was humbled people, I met a family. Shout out to team Emerald.

I can’t start calling names now but y’all are the best, I will want to do this again, and again. and again with you guys.

The specs of being a corper: My Story pt 3

5. The broke days: staying alone is not cheap, I repeat staying alone is not cheap. I really can’t put words together at how creative I became because of the broke days, yes..You wouldn’t have noticed because of packaging, but man was not smiling inside.

 I planned meals ….let me explain, when you have #100 and you calculate if to buy *bread like #60, milk #25 chocolate like #15, that’s when you will realize that #5 has value, or if you should buy rice: 1 cup like #60 and red oil with #20 maggi hopefully there would be salt at home, and during the tomato crisis omg etc

 you think you weren’t broke during service year raise your hand, but that will be after you pass this short test

5. Was transportation ever a challenge...like did you ever cancel going out (anywhere) because of T.P

3. the initial days at Ibadan: thanks to that 19,800 that came in just about when we were leaving camp, my "squad" and I could afford to pay hotel bills and enjoy the copper luxury life of Ibadan...yeah we were all posted to Ibadan.

 Registration wasn’t stressful for me because I did the easy part and came in later for the rest; there is no stress in life biko. Oh my God, how will I forget to mention that it’s when you get posted for NYSC that your parents will remember your long lost relatives that live in that state and if you are lucky, you get to choose which of those relativessss you will like to stay with. 

my case wasn’t different, I chose my awesome aunt whom I’m not staying with anymore, yeah i know right if she’s awesome why am I not staying with her anymore? See....the thing is her place is far from my PPA, I’m serious na.....

My first days and even months in Ibadan, oh I wish I had known I would meet the friends I have now I would have just fast forwarded time, if I could. The first days were good, parties here and there; fast food was the order of the day, like every day. Wish I knew there would be rainy days, like both literally and figuratively.

I forgot that I wanted to save all my allawee and buy a car or build a house like most of our NYSC motivational speakers did during their time.

The hustle to find accommodation was real, everybody wanted to get houses in the best areas irrespective of what they or their parents can afford even those that have found the perfect lost relative were still searching for house, why? Dashing one thousand naira to agents. sorry I was meant to talk about myself not others, after staying with my aunt for weeks I was finally favored to get a fully furnished house close to my PPA, yeah right I was lucky...naah, luck is just opportunity meeting hard work *winks*

4. MY PPA: for those wondering where I got posted to, I was posted to Ibadan North West local government onireke Ibadan and yes your guess is as correct as mine...no work. Information reaching says some don’t know the meaning of PPA, its place of primary assignment.

After waiting for about two months to get my internal posting due to the bureaucracy, hectic and busy schedule of the local government workers, I was posted to the finance department.

My work is boring, that’s if I work, nothing much to write about it lets just fast forward to the broke days.

THE SPECS OF BEING A CORPER

Apart from people shouting wee and expecting us to answer back like mad dogs, I believe there are more to being a corper.

 I obviously will write from a personal view, if you feel you have better ideas share em.

1. The preparation for camp: The hype behind preparation for camp would make you wonder, everyone seems to have an idea of what camp would be like, don’t wear this, carry this, and carry that, in my case there was a book given to Eagles "Eagles in Khaki" I’m sure many of you like me read it and were even more frustrated. 

The only place for reliable information seemed to be a bbm channel for corpers, I didn’t even know if the channel was run by a secondary school boy from the comfort of his bed, making graduates run here and there "they say i should buy 10 whites, 10 shorts. i heard some people even bought about 21 white t shirts and shorts for each day, wetin happen.

omg then the photocopies, photocopy 20 copies of this and that, I literally spent thousands of Dollars sorry Naira and I’m not exaggerating on photocopying items I didn’t later need. Then the night before the main camp day and the butterflies running in my stomach sorry scrap that, the urge to get to camp and begin my service.

2. camp day: on getting to camp, the soldiers cared less about how long the queue was or whether you are a graduate or you are the jagaban of agaba land, if you like speak pure British English we all still did frog jump...yes frog jump with our boxes on our head, see people fainting.

The registration queue wasn’t even helping matters, shey if I had known I would resume two days later, the queue was so long that ...no metaphor is entering my head right now but it was very long. about an hour later i was in front, Glory to God.....I was wondering why the other peeps were on the longer queues when mine took me just about an hour.....ooops my supposed one hour line was just for submitting one of the many documents, fast forward to about 8 hours later I finally got a platoon and all the other things.

Some people were already paying officials to work their posting to Ibadan, i’m not judging, I’m just a careful observer.

day 1-2-3-4 squad don dey form, some were already having babes and boyfriend *in Jenifa voice* camp was becoming fun, Mami market, the igbo sistrens and brethrens, different accents.

Day 6 squad was already having goals SQUAD GOALS and we were eager to leave camp and achieve those goals. i wish we knew  the proverb that says 20 children don’t play for 20 years, in our case camp squad isn’t squad after camp...oops I’m talking too much we will talk about this tomorrow.

Ibadan today: AHN! The official exclamation

When you find yourself in Ibadan and you want to blend in easily just make sure you use the official exclamation. 

Start your conversations with Ahn!! And if you want everything to go perfect end it with o! You are good to go. 

I.e  person 1: are hungry 

      Person 2: Ahn! I'm hungry o

Person: How much is it to Bodija? 

Bike man: Ahn! It is expensive o, pay 200

Person: Ahn! I will pay #150 o 

This way you have won your way to his heart, the n st whine you will hear is enter.

And when you drop give him #500 

Bike man : Ahn! There is no change o 

*checks his pocket, take your change. 

Be wise my friend, use Ahn! Whenever you are Ibadan.

The good part is you can't overuse it.

Ahn! What is happening here Ahn! Ahn! I want to go Ahn! Ok Ahn!!

Ibadan today: movie interpreter

When you are in Ibadan there are questions you just have to keep asking yourself, one of them is "why is there always an interpreter in Yoruba "?

There is always someone who who expresses all his shock, fear, emotions in Yoruba. Like uncle can you keep all your opinions to yourself, we don't care! 

If you are not lucky, there are now more than one person you will almost ask for earpiece. 

If the Yoruba uncle now happens to have watched or heard about the movie, just know he will explain every next move. " don't worry, he won't die", "he will beat beat that guy" .

Uncle stop na!!

Although their exclamations can make the movie interesting though, but most of the time you will want that Yoruba uncle not to be there. 

IBADAN TODAY: All noodles Na indomie

Pretty dope swag.... Na so I enter small kiosk for Ibadan and like the normal tradition is always am elderly woman that is selling. 

     A very hilarious conversation occurred between us 

Me: mama good afternoon ,pls I want to buy indomie 

Mama: Iru ewo (which type) Note!!! I didn't speak Yoruba to her

Me : ehn give me the indomie onion chicken that's green one 

Mama: Iwò ní yén ( which one is that) 

There is #25, #35, #60 indomie  

Me : (really amazed at the different prices of indomie and my effort to know more I asked )

Which one is all these prices

Mama: there is indomie chikki chikki ,indomie Honeywell ,indomie golden penny,indomie cherry  and mee mee. Ewo le n fé(which one do you want) 

Me: (at this point I was flabbergasted and with all seriousness I was like ) give me indomie indomie! 

Apparently I wasn't choosy again I just wanted indomie

IBADAN TODAY: Ibadan beggars

Ibadan beggars 

In my earlier write up about Ibadan beggars where I stated that were so many beggars in Ibadan at every traffic stop, please forgive me for not stating how there were actually too many beggars in Ibadan. 

Damn!!!! Out of every 3 random people you pick 1 is a beggar, both the crippled, blind,whole and hearty, singing, mother of 6 children, praying, corporate, official beggars etc 

Inside shoprite there are beggars, inside your office there are beggars, they position themselves strategically at points where you can't claim you don't have money or change I.e shoprite, bustop when Okada is giving you change, football viewing center, market places and every other place people spend money.

I don't even get pissed off at the crippled even tho they are too many, it's the whole and hearty ones with two legs and two hands that vexes me.

And those children beggars omg!!!!!

Jejely on your own, you go dey form fresh guy dey waka for road like two small children will just come from no where and pull you...uncle Abeg,Abeg ejò.....they won't leave you, chai 

Then the corporate beggars, those ones wey change of #20, #50 no dey do....the securities, cleaners at malls, stores etc 

Then the official beggars....OlÒPÁ abeg sir.....they are official cause there own na do or die o....they don't leave you so many choices, it's sha better you give them..cause if you don't, I don't know o 

All for this #19,800 .....there is God o! 

IBADAN TODAY: Oyo is free of Lassa fever virus

Ibadonians are free of Lassa fever this was confirmed after  Dr Olabode Ladipo Oyo state director public health said the state is free of Lassa fever after claims that a child had the virus at the university college hospital in Ibadan. 

“After tests were conducted on the girl’s blood sample, it was detected that the earlier fear was a mere scare. As of now, there is no active case of Lassa fever Oyo state. We are aware that other states are having cases of the virus but Oyo State is free because there are no recorded cases.” The state also confirmed that it would begin measles vaccination for around 2.5m children in the state with support from the World Health Organisation and the United Nations Children Fund.

That's how we roll here in Ibadan. 

IBADAN TODAY: film house reopens at heritage mall

This may no longer be news to some just as it me y be to others. After the fire outbreak that destroyed the Filmhouse Cinemas Dugbe, Ibadan early last year, Filmhouse Limited has re-open its doors to the citizens of Ibadan as it launches a new face lift to its cinemas located at the Heritage Mall, Cocoa House, Dugbe, Ibadan. 

According to its management, the rehabilitated cinema is equipped with four digital screens and latest modern cinema sound and projection technology as well as luxury stadium seating. The cinema opened its doors last Year, showing free movies to all. It also hosted the premiere of the movie, Out Of Luck as part of the activities lined up to celebrate its re-opening.

IBADAN TODAY: car windscreen washer

Car screen washer....

This business is gradually becoming a nationwide recognized business, I thought I left them in Abuja. 

But no ....they are everywhere even in Ibadan. Is it that the business is lucrative or an easy way to make money. There most be supper dopper mad profit. 

Maybe not tho, because I don't know how many people actually pay them.

Just standing here out of about 5 cars this guy attempted to wash only 1 corporated, or as my warri guys will say "na only one shake body". 

I'm young and stupid

Am the only person permitted to say that to myself 

Don't even tell me am young 

Cause I already feel too old for this  

Neither will you tell me am stupid,

Cause that's when my stupidity comes alive 

I'm 21 and I know a lot already

A lot to be on my own and take my own decisions 

I don't even want the advice of anybody 

At least the ones that do not go my own way 

I'm young and stupid 

Am old enough to do what I want 

Ooops...am not rich enough 

I want to do every thing on my mind 

But no one will finance a mind idea 

More so an idea of a young and stupid fellow 

I want to please my God 

I want to please myself 

I want to please my parents 

I want to please my friends 

I want to please the society 

Sigh............

Why am I writing all this 

I'm still young and stupid.
